- CARBON CONTROL STANDARD
CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change refers to the destructive effects of global warming on our climate and weather systems. It is one of the greatest environmental issues of our time and its repercussions for the environment are worldwide. They include severe weather, extensive flooding, increased droughts, reduced crop yields, all leading to death, disease, destruction and displacement of peoples.
Global warming is primarily caused by increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere as a result of humans burning fossil fuels. In order to avoid the catastrophic effects of climate change individuals and companies must control their carbon emissions to reduce the concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
CRITERIA
To achieve the CARBON CONTROL™ standard and be awarded the CARBON CONTROL™ mark of approval an organisation must meet three specific CARBON CONTROL™ criteria for reducing CO2 emissions.
These criteria are:
1. a reduction of 3% or more in annual emissions
2. the implementation of an approved CO2 Energy Management System
3. evidence of previous initiatives to reduce carbon emissions
CARBON CONTROL™
CARBON CONTROL™ was founded by a team that includes environmental researchers, academics and industry experts, passionate about the environment and concerned with how organisations are managing their environmental impact.
The CARBON CONTROL™ mark, as a trademarked consumer label, acts to alleviate the climate change problem. It guarantees that the organisations displaying the mark are meeting strict CO2 emissions reduction targets. These organisations are reducing green house gas emissions and working to prevent the most destructive effects of climate change.
By purchasing from organisations displaying the CARBON CONTROL™ mark you are part of the fight against global warming.
